Scale Number Parameter Efficacy
-2 This design choice has an severe negative impact on the implementation of this design restriction. If this choice was to be used, this parameter would not be fulfilled by the design.
-1 This design choice has a clear negative impact on the implementation of this design restriction. If this choice was to be used, this parameter would not be well addressed by the design
0 This design choice has a neutral, or no impact on this design restriction. No positive or negative benefits for the design parameter’s implementation.
1 This design choice has a notable positive impact on the implementation of this design restriction. If this choice was to be used, this parameter has the potential to be well addressed, other factors notwithstanding.
2 This design choice has an extraordinarily positive impact on the implementation of this design restriction. If this choice was to be used, this parameter would be well implemented by the design.

Decision Matrix for Wing

Parameter guide:

Weight

The performance of the aircraft depends on the weight of the aircraft. There is a 5 minute flight window for missions 2 and 3 so the aircraft must be able to take off quickly and perform the laps in a reasonable timeframe. The weight of the unloaded aircraft should be kept to a minimum to ensure that the payload can be maximized to score the most points.

Cost

I know we got a sponsorship (LET’S GOOO!!) but let’s try to not go bankrupt.

Stability

The aircraft must be easy to fly and land. The wing is one of the primary contributors to the aircraft’s handling characteristics and is evaluated based on this criteria. A high amount of consideration will be given to the wing design that performs the best in this category.

Lift

Lift is the aerodynamic force that acts perpendicular to the relative airflow and opposes the weight of the aircraft. Our team is seeking to optimize the lift of our aircraft in order to carry the largest number of external fuel tanks. Wings that provide good lift at low speeds are preferred.

Space for payload

The area underneath the plane’s wings will be used to house the external fuel tanks and potentially the propulsion system. A wing design that has lots of underwing room will have positive points while a wing design with a low amount of space will have negative points.

Manuf Difficulty

General difficulty of building this wing configuration. Depends on how complicated is it to build and do our members need to learn from scratch.
